The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan – founded in Mumbai in 1938 by Dr. K.M. Munshi, a visionary and multifaceted personality, conceptualized Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as a comprehensive national organization. It has grown from small beginning into an all India intellectual, cultural and educational movement. Its aim is to revitalize India’s intellectual, cultural and educational ethos. It seeks to preserve the ancient values of India i.e. Bharat and harmonize them with the changing needs of modern times. Bharaitya Vidya Bhavan has a nationwide network with 125 Centres.
It has extended its activities abroad with seven International Centres with the avowed objective of building up a commonwealth of faith, hope and human values. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once referred to it as “a very fine institution which deserves every encouragement and support. The Bhavan is an adventure in faith.”
Bhavan’s Pune Kendra commenced its activities on 2nd October 1983 with Shri. M.R. Yardi, ICS as its founder-Chairman and was inaugurated by Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission of Bellur Math.
The Bhavan has been recognized as an educational institution of national eminence Under Section 80(G) (2) (iii-F) of the Income Tax Act, under this Section, donations to the Bhavan will have 100% tax rebate.
The Bhavan seeks the active participation and support of all in this movement of carrying the universal message of the great Indian Culture to the four corners of the world and of building up a Coomonwealth of Faith, Hope and Basic Human Values, bringing nations and peoples together to strive for a world free from hatred and strife and full of love, peace and happiness.

Since its inception in 1984, Pune Kendra has launched many activities and undertaken many programmes which have created niche for itself in Pune city rightly called the educational and cultural capital of Maharashtra. It has three complexes – one at Shivajinagar, second at Prabhat Road and the third one at Kothrud.
