Heritage Lecture Series :

The mission of Bhavan, is to nurture and disseminate Indian Culture and its traditional and enduring values and create consciousness in the minds of the people, specially the younger generation, of its richness, its tremendous strength and its relevance in modern times.

With a view to fulfill this mission, the Kendra has started a series of lectures on Indian Cultural Heritage. Indian culture has various facets. Every lecture illuminated one of the facets. So far eight lectures have been delivered by eminent speakers as under during the February 2009 to November 2009.

We have planned number of more lectures which include the subjects like heritage of Indian art, architecture, food, fashion, festivals, rites and rituals; Education, Gram Sanskriti; values like compassion, broad mindedness and tolerance, work ethics and work culture etc. by eminent personalities.

First Annual Educational Conference on
‘Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education ’

The first annual education conference on ‘Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009’ was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pune Kendra on 30th January 2010 In order to discuss and deliberate the implications and the issues related to implementation of this Act, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pune Kendra. Several eminent speakers in the field of education, public administration and social activists and representation of un-aided private schools participated in the conference Dr. P.R. Dubhashi, Chairman of the Pune Kendra, inaugurated the Conference. Eminent Advocate Shri. Bhaskarrao Avhad, delivered his key note address. The first session was on the topic of ‘Quality and Equity – The examination, testing and evaluation system, under the Act. Advocate Shri. Avhad chaired the session. Smt. Simantini Dhuru, Director Avehi Abacus .Mrs. Kirti Raina, Headmistress of Sulochana Natu Vidya Mandir (SNVM), Mrs. Philomena Gaikwad, Headmistress, Bhavan’s Paranjape Vidya Mandir, Kothrud. The second session was chaired by Dr. P.S. Karekar, Member, Pune Kendra Committee. Dr. D. P. Tapkeer, S.N.D.T. College of Education and Prof. Sharad Jawadekar were present and addressed on the subject. Dr. P.R. Dubhashi delivered the valedictory speech in the seminar. The deliberations of this conference were sent to HRD Minister, Govt. of India and also to the Chairperson of the National Advisory Committee Smt. Sonia Gandhi.

Second Annual Educational Conference on ‘Code of Professional Ethics for Teachers ’

Pune Kendra organized 2nd Annual Educational Conference on 26th February 2011 on the important subject of “Code of Professional Ethics for Teachers”. As many as 170 teachers of Bhavan’s schools and other 16 different Schools attended the Conference and deliberated the subject at length. Dr. P.R. Dubhashi, Chairman, inaugurated the conference and Shri Rakesh Saxena, Director, Shikshan Bharati, BVB, Mumbai delivered the key note address. During the conference Mrs Manjusha Puranik, Smt. Sunita Jahirabadkar, Dr. Smt. Surya Ramdas, and Ms. Vidisha Chirmulay represented views of teachers, parents and students respectively. The participants were divided into four groups and brain storming was conducted to express views about Code of Conduct from the view point of teachers, parents, students and society in general. The outcome of the Conference in the form of report is under preparation and would be sent to various educational authorities in due course.

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and Advocate D.R. Nagarkar Foundation joint Award

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pune Kendra and Advocate D.R. Nagarkar Foundation has instituted a joint award for recognizing the outstanding contribution of eminent personalities in the various fields viz. social work, drama, music, arts, theatre, sports and literature etc. by rotation. Generally, this award is given in the month of October, the birth anniversary of late Adv. Dr. R. Nagarkar, every year. It consist of cash prize, memento and a citation. The recipients of this joint award till 2011 were Dr. Arun Nigavekar, former Vice Chancellor, University of Pune (UoP) and former Chairman of University of Grants Commission (UGC) , renowned social activists Smt. Nirmala Sovani, renowned Marathi theatre personality Shri. Chandrakant Gokhale, eminent sports coach and organizer Shri. Haribhau Sane, Senior research scholar in literature Dr. P.N. Joshi, renowned economist Dr. Nilkanth Rath, Social activist in the field blind men Shri. Tukaram Bamhankar, Marathi literature research scholar Dr. Ra.Chi. Dhere, renowned Artist Dr. R.V. alias Babasaheb Pathak, National tennis player Shri. Nandan Bal, senior linguist and researcher Dr. Ashok Kelkar, founder of Apale Ghar, a home for orphaned, Shri. Vijay Phalanikar, Veteran Marathi natya sangeet stage artist Smt. Jaymala Shiledar, and eminent public prosecutor Advocate Ujwal Nikam.
